IOP Genomics

The IOP-genomics project "Comparative and Predictive Transcriptome analysis of Gram-positive Bacteria for Enhanced Food Functionality, Food Quality and Food Safety" (IGE01018) involves the characterisation and comparison of selected global regulatory pathways in three food-related bacteria and one reference bacterium: Lactococcus lactis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis (Fig.). The project aims at the design and testing of different techniques for the prediction of global genetic regulation in bacteria. The organisms will be investigated under industrially relevant conditions of growth and stress. Prediction of regulatory responses improves the design of industrial processes aimed at, for example, the optimization or inhibition of growth and production. For the WCFS programme 3 this is a leading project in the development and implementation of experimental techniques used in transcriptomics, as well as in the management, analysis and integration of large datasets and knowledge-bases. The project is a collaboration between TI Food and Nutrition, CMBI at Nijmegen University, and Molecular Genetics at Groningen University.
